Documentary photography of social movements and social issues
I specialize in environmental justice and social movement photography. My photography practice is intimately connected to my research and writing. It provides me another way to communicate with students and the public. I also take photographs as visual “notes” for my research. My photographs show up in a variety of places: exhibits in galleries, online exhibits, libraries and street corners, photo-essays, public presentations; alongside my writing; accompanying oral histories; in my classroom and in the classrooms of others. Other photographs have spread their reach into books, reports, and advocacy work.
